ISLAMABAD: Pakistani wrestler Muhammad Inam has won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling — the country’s first gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

Inam, 29, clinched first place in the 86-kg category by defeating a Nigerian wrestler in a one-sided challenge.

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa congratulated Inam.

Military spokesman Major General Asif Ghafoor, in a tweet, said: “Well done for keeping the Pakistani flag high and bringing honor to the country.”

Earlier this week two Pakistani wrestlers, Tayab Raza and Muhammad Bilal, won bronze medals for the country.

In weightlifting Muhammad Nooh Dastgir Butt and Talha Talib also won bronze for Pakistan.
